Bolt AI, which most people still call Bolt.new, does something none of its competitors do: it runs a full Node environment inside the browser. That is why it supports React, Vue, Svelte, Next and Astro rather than locking you to one, and why you can go from a sentence to something running without installing anything.
People look for alternatives for reasons that are fairly consistent, and none of them is that the tool does not work.
- 01Token cost on iteration. The pricing is consumption-based, and design work is the worst possible shape for that: many small corrections, each one paying to re-read the project. Bug-fixing loops are where budgets disappear.
- 02Design coherence. Bolt has no equivalent of v0's named design systems. Output is competent and tends toward the generic unless you prompt hard.
- 03In-browser limits. The WebContainer is remarkable and it is still a browser. Heavy builds and anything wanting native binaries hit walls that a real machine would not.
- 04It cannot read your existing site. Point it at a page you already run and you get something new and unrelated, then you paste your own copy back in.
How this was compiled
A researched comparison drawing on vendor documentation, public pricing and published third-party reviews as of September 2026, not a hands-on bake-off. Pricing in this category moves fast, so treat every figure as a starting point. ResetUI is our own product and is placed by what it does, including where it is the wrong answer.
The eight at a glance
| Tool | Category | Frameworks | Backend | Entry price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| v0 | App builder | React, Next.js only | No | Free, then ~$20/mo |
| Lovable | App builder | React | Auth, DB, Stripe | Free, then ~$25/mo |
| Emergent AI | Agentic builder | Full stack | Auth, DB, hosting | Free, then $20/mo |
| Base44 | App builder | Full stack | Built in | Free tier available |
| Replit Agent | Agentic builder | Many languages | Hosting included | Paid tiers |
| AIDesigner | Design tool | Exports code | No | Free tier, then paid |
| ResetUI | Design tool | HTML, Next.js, React, Vue, Svelte | No | Free, then from $9/mo |
| Framer | Site builder | Hosted, not portable | No | Free, then ~$5+/mo |
If the problem is cost per iteration
1. v0
The most common switch. Cleaner output than Bolt, a flat entry price around $20, and named design systems that meaningfully reduce generic-looking results. The trade is framework lock: Next.js and shadcn/ui only, which is fine on React and disqualifying otherwise. Its own limits are covered in the v0 alternatives comparison.
2. ResetUI
Disclosure: our product. Relevant to this specific complaint because a chat edit is one credit, flat, regardless of how large the page is. There is no re-reading charge that grows with the project, which is the mechanic that makes consumption pricing painful on design work. The free plan renews 10 credits monthly, which is one complete design plus five edits.
If you need more than a front end
3. Lovable
Scaffolds authentication, a Supabase database and Stripe by default, and holds context across many rounds better than most. The highest entry price among the mainstream builders, and worth it only when the product behind the page actually needs to exist.
4. Emergent AI
Runs a multi-agent system, an architect, a designer, a developer, an integration agent and a project manager, that plans and executes the build rather than responding prompt by prompt. Full stack, with hosting and payments. Its credit pricing is even less predictable than Bolt's, so it solves the capability complaint rather than the cost one. See the Emergent AI alternatives comparison for the detail.
5. Base44
Prompt to app with a built-in backend and a free tier generous enough to evaluate properly. Less discussed than Lovable, which occasionally makes it better value at comparable capability.
6. Replit Agent
A real cloud development environment rather than a browser sandbox, with an agent on top and hosting included. The closest thing to Bolt's do-it-all-in-one-tab experience without the WebContainer ceiling, and the better answer when the build is heavier than a marketing site.
If the problem is that the page looks generated
This is the complaint people are least likely to state directly. The page works, deploys, and looks like every other AI-built page. That is a property of app builders as a category rather than a Bolt defect, and it is explained in AI app builder vs AI design tool.
7. AIDesigner
Design-first on an infinite canvas, covering landing pages, dashboards and mobile screens, with visual output that published comparisons rate at the top of the category. Broader in surface coverage than it is specialised. More in the AIDesigner alternatives comparison.
8. ResetUI
Narrower again: the SaaS marketing page specifically. You describe the page and the brief is matched automatically to one of twenty authored design specifications, each a complete system covering palette, type scale, spacing and component language rather than a theme. There is no template gallery and no style picker. Twelve page types share that design language, so a pricing page or a sign-in screen is composed for its own purpose instead of being a landing page with the words swapped.
Exports as a standalone HTML file, a Next.js App Router page, a Vite React component, a Vue SFC or a Svelte component, with responsive behaviour added during conversion. It is also the only tool here that reads a live URL. It will not build your product, and if that is what you need, Bolt is genuinely the better tool.
Burning tokens on the same layout?
ResetUI charges one credit per chat edit, flat, however big the page is. Free plan includes a full design every month.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best Bolt AI alternative?
It depends on the reason. v0 is the most common switch for people on React who want cleaner output and steadier pricing. Lovable or Base44 if you need a backend. Emergent AI or Replit Agent if you want agents to plan the whole build. If the real issue is that the page looks generated rather than designed, a design tool such as AIDesigner or ResetUI is a better category fit than any app builder.
Why does Bolt AI use so many tokens?
Its pricing is consumption-based and every prompt re-reads project context, so cost grows with the size of the project rather than the size of the change. Iterative design work is the worst shape for that model, because it is many small corrections rather than a few large ones. Debugging loops, where the same error is attempted repeatedly, are where most people report budgets disappearing.
Is there a cheaper alternative to Bolt AI?
Flat-rate tools are generally more predictable for design work. v0 is around $20 a month, ResetUI is $9 or $19 with a free tier that renews monthly, and Base44, AIDesigner and Framer all have usable free tiers. The saving comes less from the headline price than from not paying per iteration when you are nudging a layout for the tenth time.
Can Bolt AI redesign an existing website?
No. Bolt generates from a prompt and does not read your live site, so your existing copy, section structure and brand are not carried across. You would be reassembling your own content by hand afterwards. URL-based redesign tools exist as a separate category for exactly that case.
Is Bolt AI good for landing pages?
It is good at producing one quickly, and it is the only mainstream builder that will output Vue, Svelte or Astro as well as React. Its weakness for landing pages specifically is design coherence: it has no equivalent of v0's named design systems, so an unconstrained prompt returns a competent but average page. Naming a design direction and constraining the palette improves it substantially.
